I also offer sessions online for clients living further afield.
What are your qualifications and professional affiliations?
I am a fully qualified Psychotherapist-Coach. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Coaching (achieved with distinction) and a Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling Skills (with distinction). I also have a first degree in Applied Psychology BA (Hons).
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and as such am bound by its ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. Please refer to www.bacp.co.uk for further information.
I have a yearly DBS check and hold professional indemnity insurance.
How many sessions will I need?
Personal therapy is a weekly space just for you where you can get the support you need. Some people like to set a number of sessions as we begin, reviewing this as they go. Others prefer to work in a more open-ended way being prepared to stay until they are feeling ready to end.
I need to cancel my session
With a week’s notice of cancellations there is no charge. With less than a week’s notice the full fee is charged.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Both terms are often used interchangeably however there are some differences. Counselling tends to be shorter term and focused on a ‘problem situation’, whereas Psychotherapy delves into the inner world and processes of the client. You don't need to choose, our focus will naturally evolve based on your needs.
What is coaching?
Coaching is about gaining clarity, setting goals, and creating a plan to move forward. It’s generative, focused on change and working toward a preferred future. Often, coaching works best when combined with the foundational work of counselling or psychotherapy. In my practice I incorporate coaching techniques, where appropriate, with clients who wish to make concrete changes and to develop their strengths.
What does integrative mean?
An integrative approach brings together different elements of therapy models; recognizing that no single theory holds all the answers. By drawing on various techniques, we can explore and understand challenges from multiple perspectives, addressing the individual as a whole to support meaningful change.
Do I need therapy or coaching?
Therapy and coaching both support change but differ in focus.
Therapy focuses on healing, exploring past patterns that affect your present well-being. It’s useful for managing emotional issues like anxiety, depression, or stress and can take time to process deeper emotions.
Coaching is action-oriented, focused on achieving goals and making progress in specific areas of life, such as career or personal development. It’s ideal when you're ready to move forward but may not be struggling with significant emotional challenges.
Sometimes, coaching may uncover past issues, requiring a brief therapeutic approach to address those blocks before moving forward.
The right path will become clear as we work together.
What happens in a therapy session?
Every therapy session is unique to the individual. As an integrative therapist, I tailor each session to your needs, providing a space where you can talk freely. Think of this as your time - where you are the expert on you.
That said, I understand that having some idea of what to expect can be helpful. Below is a general overview of what the process may involve:
A note: Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. The journey unfolds in a way that suits you, and not everything mentioned above may happen or it may happen in a different order. The key is that therapy is your space, designed to support you in the way that works best for you.
